New 2027 Lexus RZ MPG, Release Date, Reviews  –  Using the same e-TNGA architecture as the Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X crossovers, Lexus has debuted their first all-electric model for the American market with the RZ. It debuted in 2023 and is making a triumphant comeback this year, this time with an improved front-drive model. We would have a far more favorable impression of the RZ if its charging issues and limited range weren’t a problem. A polished ride, a silent cabin, and quality cabin materials are all hallmarks of this electric luxury SUV, which stays true to the Lexus luxury playbook. Electric vehicles are known for their lightning-fast acceleration from a standstill and their indubitably on-brand aesthetics both inside and out.

The new front-drive RZ has a little longer range but charges at the same snail’s pace. Lexus is well aware that coming generations and other models will need to perform much better in order to compete with rivals that can go farther and charge quicker. Among our lesser issues were the too aggressive safety monitors and the low rear seat hip point, which is problematic for anyone with longer legs. Aside from that, it’s a fantastic Lexus. Exterior & Interior

In cold weather, electric cars lose a lot of power heating the cabin, which reduces their efficiency and range. For this reason, the Lexus RZ Takumi and Premium Plus Pack come equipped with tiny infrared heaters. Using only 170W, they create the sensation of having warm blankets on your knees by radiating heat to your legs and the legs of your front passenger. Turning on the primary temperature control systemuses around 5000W, so there’s a significant opportunity for savings. In order to feel comfortable without a coat, we discovered that the heated seat and steering wheel required to be turned on. However, even with those features turned on, you will still be able to significantly reduce your energy use.

That means you’ll have more time to explore the inside of the RZ in between stops to charge. Plus, it has a lot of high-quality materials on the interior of the doors and dashboard, so it seems sturdy and well-built. A significantly bigger 72.8 kWh battery is featured by the RZ FWD compared to the AWD. With it, the expected range for a fully charged crossover with 18-inch wheels is 266 miles, and with 20-inch wheels, it drops to 224 miles. The maximum recharge rate of both RZ models on a DC fast charger is 150 kW, which is adequate but not exceptional. With its larger 71.4-kWh battery, the RZ can return to 80% capacity in 35 minutes, while its smaller 71.4-kWh counterpart can do the same in 30 minutes.

Engine & Performance

Quickness is assured with the Lexus RZ. With a total of 308 horsepower, its two electric motors more than match the acceleration of a BMW iX3. I mean, sure, it lacks the jaw-dropping G-force of, say, a Tesla Model Y or Genesis Electrified GV70, but really, who wants that in a family SUV.

The RZ is usually fun to ride on winding rural roads at modest speeds. With enough of traction from the tires and a steering wheel that feels reasonably connected to the front wheels, you can confidently apply lock on the way into corners and feel the weight building up. The RZ becomes less composed as you increase the speed or come upon a region with undulations. The model determines it. The quicker of the two is the 308-horsepower RZ dual-motor AWD. While Lexus claims 5.0 seconds from 0 to 60 mph, our test group was able to reduce that to 4.7 seconds. While it’s not quite 4.4 seconds like the long-range 2023 Tesla Model Y AWD, it’s getting there. New RZ is a front-wheel-drive vehicle with 201 horsepower. Launching to 60 mph takes as low as 7.4 seconds, according to Lexus.

The 2024 RZ comes equipped with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0. Lane keeping with centering, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and recognition of traffic signs are all part of it. The Lexus RZ isn’t exactly a cheap electric SUV alternative, with a starting price that’s lower than the Genesis Electrified GV70 but almost the same as the BMW iX3. There is a price drop of thousands of dollars even for the most costly trim level of the somewhat smaller Tesla Model Y, which offers better range and faster charging times.Even the base Premium Pack comes with a ton of standard features, such a panoramic roof, keyless entry, power front seats, temperature control, and wheels (18 inches). Because it includes 20-inch wheels, infrared warmers, ventilated front seats, a head-up display, and more, we believe the Premium Plus Pack is worth the additional cost.

Though it may be enticing, the range-topping Takumi is just too pricey to suggest, despite its enhanced sound system, plusher interior trimmings, and dimmable panoramic roof. Numerous safety systems are standard on all trim levels, including automated emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot monitoring, a driver concentration monitor, and a system that alerts you to oncoming cars when you reverse into a road.
