Engine & Performance

Available with the 2027 NX are four different powertrains. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder producing 203 horsepower is standard on the NX, while a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine producing 275 horsepower is available on the NX. They are both equipped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The NX comes standard with all-wheel drive, while the NX is available with front- or all-wheel drive. There are two hybrid models to choose from; the first is the NXh, which has 239 hp thanks to its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. The NX450h+, which takes its 302-horsepower plug-in hybrid drivetrain from the RAV4 Prime, is the more appealing choice.

The top-of-the-line NX450h+ reached 60 mph in 5.6 seconds, compared to 7.6 seconds for the base NXh, in our tests. The all-wheel drive system is standard on both hybrids. We began our test drive with a mid-range NX, which managed a respectably quick 60 mph time of 6.6 seconds. Although the NX’s handling was nothing to brag about, we did find that it rode comfortably and even managed to bring a few smiles to our faces when we were cruising around quiet roads with a little encouragement. The adaptive suspension system available on the F Sport variant makes for a firmer ride and a little more composure, but the NX still can’t hold its own on winding roads compared to the BMW X1. New 2027 Lexus NX Pictures

With an EPA-estimated 41 mpg in city driving and 37 mpg on the interstate, the NXh hybrid is the most fuel-efficient NX model. The base model NX gets up to 33 miles per gallon on the highway and 26 miles per gallon in the city. The turbocharged NX gets 29 MPG on the interstate and 22 MPG in the city when it’s operating at its best. Our highway fuel economy test route yielded 28 mpg for the all-wheel-drive NX and 34 mpg for the hybrid NXh. The NXh hybrid is the most fuel-efficient NX model, with EPA ratings of 41 and 37 mpg, respectively, in city and highway driving.
